Why I recommend this place to locals

It isn’t on the South Main Street strip so a lot of people miss it. It is across the street from the Main Art Theatre. They have a wonderful salsa bar and you can even get a batter fried fish burrito. You can order with refried beans or black beans. It is vegetarian friendly too! Great fresh food.

A tip I have about this place

Get the Sangria – they add the fruit and let it ferment in the wine. My favorite dish here is Nopalitos – cactus and eggs.

The first time I went to this place

Was when I was working at Blue Cross Blue Shield – we went there for their German smörgåsbord. Future trips were for seated lunches. One of the busiest times for lunch back then was for Tiger’s Opening Day at Comerica Park when it opened.

Minot AFB

How this place changed my life

I lived here when my father was stationed by SAC here from 1968-1970. He was working on missles and to a lesser degree communications. This was his last location before leaving the service and returning to civilian life.

I was in 1st and 2nd grade at the school on base. Celebrated my First Communion at the chapel on base. I remember having touch football games in the lots behind the triplexes. Lots of kids in the neighborhood and we had great snow-fights in the winter.

It was in Minot that I learned about wind-chill because that influenced how long my mother would let us outside to play in the winter.

Caribou Coffee

The last time I went to this place

It was the first time I met with fellow photographers in the Royal Oak Flickr.com group. Paul Hitz – the administrator setup the meeting for March 13, 2007. A reporter from Michigan Radio was there interviewing people. There were about 20 people that showed up and by the end of the night there was a buzz on the street about all the photographers walking around taking photos.

You can visit the group on Flickr and find all photos from the photographers on the trip that used a common tag rov031307.

One of my intentions in taking photos during the photo safari was to collect storefront photos for use on 43places.
