over 5 years agoI was traveling on a bus from metro airport into downtown Detroit. I had no idea about the Angels of Delray. You’ll find angels painted on boards and secured to the business fronts along Jefferson Ave in this area.
It is also where you’ll find Zug Island, Detroit’s Waste Water Treatment Plant, and Marathon’s fuel refinery.
over 5 years agoOslo is back and running bringing through top techno music talent weekly. Doors reopened downstairs on December 1.
On Dec 1 Paxahau brought in John Johr and Claude Von Stroke for ‘Dirty Calculator’. It was hot, sweaty, and full of love. Someday Oslo is gonna have to do something to ventilate that basement!!
This past Saturday (Dec 8) Stacey Pullen moved his Radio Skool bi-monthly event in and played to a full club. Lots of the who’s who around Detroit’s techno crowd.
So your question might be – what’s up with the sushi bar upstairs? It isn’t quite open yet. Drinks are served but nothing substantial for food. Very soon though things will be coming back to life with the sushi bar.
over 5 years agoSharrone Mitchell had her going away party at Cadillac Cafe this afternoon. It was a meeting of people who have been with the fashion designer for years and those whom are newly active in her path. Sharrone is preparing to be on the road as a designer, holding shows in Washington DC, Atlanta, and internationally. The summer of 2008 she will be returning for Fashion In The Streets with a look at her creations formed from her textile travels around the world.

Great place to pickup fashionable, dressy, club and work clothing.
I will be shooting at the event for the online magazine Resident Advisor so you’ll find me all over during the three days of the festival. I have partnered with the Electronic Music Showcase being held at 150 Lounge just 3 blocks from the entrance to DEMF. You’ll be able to buy prints of photos taken at a table there.
over 6 years agoLast night I made my first visit to The Magic Bag. It was the evening of the Detroit Music Awards, so a lot of spots around Detroit were celebrating by hosting their favorite performers.
I was out shooting the first part of the evening with Bernie and he got the call from Tricky to hit the Magic Bag. We arrived and Blasternaut was playing. We caught the last 4 songs in their set. The next band up was FACE and they had an adoring group of fans packing the dance floor. Great sets from both bands.
The location isn’t as grand as The Royal Oak Music Theater, but it doesn’t play itself up to be that either. From what I can tell you really get in touch with the artists performing here. So I would consider it a hot spot in the Detroit area and I’m looking forward to more visits.
Sound is great and lighting is as well – as a photographer finding a spot that runs their lights right is crucial for great photos.
