Waterfire, Downtown

an amazing art, tjeatrical, visual, silent, strong, experience, somber and moving

I had never heard of it but was visiting Providence and taken to it at the insustence of a friend. I felt I was witnessing something primeval, mythical… that these might well have been the boatmen of the River Styx.

Arkansas, United States

Arkansas is many places

… The Ozarks, some of the prettiest country in America (much like New England, but less architecurally preserved… see it now, before it is all over-developed).

… Little Rock, an extremely livable city, with neighborhoods like the historic Quapaw Quarter, and the urban hip/family Hillcrest. Historic Arkansas Museum, Central High are musts. And REALLY nice folks.

… the Delta… another world. Blues, poverty, sharecropping, old old ways, good and bad.

… Eureka Springs, wierd little Victorian, hip bohemian town in the Ozarks, charming and strange: hippies and religious fanatics and various other refugees create tempests in tapots continually.

… Hope, small town, home of Bill Clinton and the Watermelon Festival.

Really diverse geologically and culturally; four distinctly different bio-regions. I will never understand why so many people dis and typecast this state.
