The Barnyard

Worth visiting!

A review of this place

I’ve found that the barnyard has gotten less and less worth visiting over time. The stores are quaint and only appeal to a niche market. Their restaurants, however, are great.
Bahama Billy’s is one of the best places to have lunch in the area. Bixby’s was shut down and briefly turned into a mexican version of Bixby’s but that also got shut down (I think) but whoever ends up owning the place, its is a great place to dine due to the atmosphere.
Robata’s and the little swiss restaurant under the windmill are also great places to eat. Allegro’s pizza has been around for a long time and has many regulars. Other than eating, the barnyard is pretty boring.

17 Mile Drive

Bring a book to read in the car because you are either going to get stuck behind a bus, a bicyclist (no sidewalks), or a 120 year old woman driving a bentley – at least that way you have plenty of time to take in the scenery going at a top speed of 3mph

Sticks

Not worth visiting!

A review of this place

Mostly a sports bar, expect to get the equivalent service.
Their bar is great as it faces the ocean with huge windows and has plenty of TVs to watch the games on. However, the food is not restaurant quality (though many people go here and treat it as a sit-down restaurant). The facility is nice enough where you can either sit at the bar or be seated at a table. However, their service is sub-par and I have yet to be impressed with their food in the times I have eaten there.
Unless you just want a cocktail, do your dining at Roy’s

Roy's - Pebble Beach

A review of this place

With huge windows facing the ocean, this restaurant is one of the more scenic you can eat at in pebble beach. I recommend timing your dinner with the sunset and relaxing on the patio with the lit fire pits as the sun sets. It’s a wonderful place and the ladies love it!
Their food is interesting, service is great, and there’s plenty of places to go walking afterwards to burn off all the food you just ate.
You can dress casually earlier in the evening but if you go later, it’s probably best to dress up a bit – but the great thing is you can do as you wish! It’s still a resort restaurant after all.

The Inn At Spanish Bay

Worth visiting!

A review of this place

I spent many-a-month here playing tennis after school. I have had numerous friends work here and I have dined here quite a bit.
Their tennis, golf, and pool/workout facilities are absolutely top notch. This place you pay the big dollar but you get the best of the best.
The tennis pros are fantastic and very nice people. The courts are immaculate.
Roy’s is a great place to have a casual or formal dinner. It’s pretty much golf attire all-round but Roy’s can be romantic especially with the ocean views and sunset.
Their golf course is one of the best in the world and will take you right down to the crashing waves on the rocks. The real-estate you will see in the rough has some famous homes of very wealthy people.
There is a lounge area with outdoor fireplaces they light every night which is a phenomenal place to spend time with a loved one and watch the sun set. For golf, resort life, and location, there are few better places.

Garland Park

Worth visiting!

A review of this place

Garland park is a fantastic place to take a walk. Two trails I recommend are the loop which basically circles an enormous field (pictured) or you can go straight up the mountain for a real workout. The view at the peak is amazing. Horses are allowed.
I also recommend playing by the river…but the current can be strong so be careful.

Carmel Valley

Worth visiting!

A review of this place

A place not often frequented by tourists, carmel valley is a retreat for locals to enjoy some small-town rural fun. The village is petite but has some fun and interesting stores. There is a bar there where you can meet friendly locals and enjoy a drink. Past the village, there isn’t much to see besides rolling hills. As you get closer to Cachagua, it begins to feel a little mid-western. It is littered with ranches.
On your way to the village, you will pass some FANTASTIC (and world famous) resorts and golf courses such as Bernardus Lodge, Carmel Valley Ranch Resort, Quail Lodge, Stonepine Estate, Rancho Canada, etc.. Some are hidden in the hills so look them up and get directions before you head out.

Carmel valley is rural and well-hidden. I recommend taking your time before you head out because you could have a hard time finding your destination or end up picking the wrong destination and being bored.I recommend consulting locals.

Fort Ord

Not worth visiting!

A review of this place

It’s basically what you would expect from an abandoned military base. There’s some cool decrepit buildings to check out (but don’t get caught trespassing) hehe
Other than that, it’s a wasteland that vaguely resembles something from a horror movie. There are open parking lots galore so it’s a good place to take your child when they learn to drive. There used to be a great paintball field here but they got shut down due to fire codes. Otherwise, there’s nothing to see.

The sand bars are fun to walk out on. Watch the tide though!
I stepped on a little bat ray or whatever and it scared me so keep an eye out for those too.

I once got lost here at 3 am when I was driving my (then)girlfriend to a modeling event. The hotels we did manage to find were unbelievably shady but nobody would let us check in because they have an “escort policy” because they think any girl with a man at night could be a prostitute. Great city!
Needless to say we ended up finding a dump and pretended to be married before we finally got a room.
