Tulum

Worth visiting!

The first time I went to this place

I was just here last week. The ruins are beautiful… as is the water surrounding. We went swimming… and walked all the ruins. I expected to feel something… you know because of all the human sacrifice. Not anything crazy you know, but when I went to ground zero I could feel something in the air, thick and choking. But nothing here. It’s pretty quiet there though inspite of all the people that were there. There are tons of huge iguanas running around. That was very cool.

Things that are not so good: You have to walk about 3/4 mile or take a trolley to the ruins form the entrance. The people in this area are very very poor. So if you are one of those people that feels crushed to see people living in third world living conditions… take the trolley and close your eyes. These people build huts and houses out of boards or whatever else they find. There are wild dogs and cats roaming around. It’s very sad.

Another thing, several different people in my group were approached by a man with an orange pipe who wanted to sell us “something for our party”. Don’t do it! Who knows what is in there, or if the guy is a narc or what. It’s not worth rotting in a Mexican jail.

Also the people with the shops are very pushy. They all sell the same things… but they get offended… and angry if you don’t come into their shop. Even if you say you have no money they will tell you it doesn’t cost anything to look. I got cussed out in Spanish because I didn’t want to go into a shop… and I truly didn’t have any more money.

We ate cheese quesidillas and chicken tacos at a place with a thatched roof. Our tour guide recommended it. The food was so-so and a bit over priced 70 Pesos ($7 dollars for barely anything) but it was worth having the whole Mexican experience. Beers are $2 and the owner is the friendliest person we met the whole trip. He goes out of his way for you. And best of all, I usually get sick from food… dairy… etc. No Montezuma’s revenge for anyone so feel safe eating.

We stayed in a log cabin up in the mountains. My whole family went. IT was off season…so a lot of things weren’t open. The Alabama restuarant is cool but the food isn’t that impressive. The Smith family show is REALLY REALLY good…the Comedy barn not so much.

I was born here. My uncle owns a bed and breakfast. Alot of the people are trashy…but the houses are cool. It has that nice small town feel to it without being too farmy. The bakery is the best ever!

I was raised here. It’s a cute little college town. Great scenery and culture. Not too big but not ridiculously small either.
