California

Worth visiting!

What Can I Say?

Dear All,

What can I say? California is always worth visiting. We lived at Fort Ord in Monterey for two years. We enjoyed it very much. I especially LOVED San Francisco! I don’t usually like BIG cities, but there is something special about San Francisco.

Driving along Big Sur is one of the most beautiful drives anywhere. I loved the Big Sur Park and we often went hiking there. There was this little place along the way that we used to stop by for a bite to eat. You could take your food out back and sit in the Adirondak chairs by a creek. I enjoyed the Cannery Row, the Aquarium, the Wharf, and Carmel by the Sea. We used to spend hours just exploring the shore of Monterey Bay. You could see all sorts of things—-to include the occasional whale.

I did not care for Los Angeles.

It is very dry in California and I did miss a good thunderstorm or two. The earthquake thing is rather unnerving too.

Hawai'i

Worth visiting!

Been here too.

Dear All,

We got to live in Hawaii for four years when my husband was in the service. However, I am not a tropical sort of person and missed the seasons terribly. One does develop ‘Island Fever’ when one lives there for four years.

However, I did get to see some of the loveliest beaches in the world--to include the North Shore. I got to travel all over the island of Ohau and I regret that we could not afford to go to the other islands. We especially enjoyed the Ala Moana Mall and beach—please forgive my spelling. It has been many years since we’ve been there. I loved Hanama Bay. We were stationed at Schofield Barracks. There is obviously A LOT of history there as well as a wonderful and very hospitable culture. My oldest daughter was born at Tripler Army Medical Center.

I think that if you are going to go to Hawaii, make it for at least a full week—-and take in at least TWO of the islands. It has a lot to offer, but it is a VERY expensive place to live in.

Colorado

Worth visiting!

I've been there.

Dear All,

We got to live in Denver, Colorado for two years when my husband was in the military. I loved everything about it all. Denver is HUGE, but you can always escape to the mountains, or the Garden of the Gods. . .or Golden, Colorado. I loved the seasons, the mountains—-just everything. Estes Park was always our favorite. Echo Lake too.

Plant City

Worth visiting!

I live here.

Dear All,

I live here in Plant City. It is a small farming town known for the strawberry crop, but it’s growing bigger by the day. If you like a slower pace, than this place would be it. It is still central to great locales like Busch Gardens, Disney World and Sea World, but you don’t have to put up with all of the traffic of the larger cities. It takes about an hour and a half to get to any of the beaches from here.

The ‘downtown’ has a variety of indoor flea markets and antique shops, as well as the Orange Blossom Tea House—-lovely place. Plant City is ALWAYS hosting car shows and motorcycle shows.
