I really have to say Salt Lake City is blessed with a rugged beauty. An oasis in the mountains. Sadly if you are a flatlander like me you may experience some difficulties especially at higher altitudes. I visited some clients in Park City, their farm was at about 10,000 feet, this is nearly 2 miles up, and being from Montreal as I am we aren’t a tremendous amount above sea level, only the week before I was in Florida, a grand 16 feet above sea level. I went up Main Street in Park City, at it’s highest point about 7,500 feet up. I experienced dizziness and shortness of breath, I might have effected my judgment about where to eat, I chose a bit of a dive. It’s strange to go into a boutique and look at stuff and have no clue what it is you are looking at because you just can’t focus mentally. I walked through a parking lot of a Wal Mart next to my hotel and it seemed to take for ever, and though only walking I was really winded. I had to buy some sunglasses, the sun at 10,000 feet seems much brighter than down lower.
After my visit with my clients was over they brought me back down to Salt Lake City, but it was mostly too late, I was already suffering from mild altitude sickness. I was at my hotel near the air port feeling sorry for myself, I was all feverish and headachey… A few hours to decompress helped, I managed to crawl out of bed and go to the Gateway Mall, quite lovely, I like the outdoor nature of the mall. There were even some rumours of Lindsay Lohan being around somewhere.
All in all a fun trip, though I know more now about altitude sickness than I cared to know. I hope to get back some day.
