Africa's Lost Child

Glad that I had the opportunity to go. I stayed at the Beaches Resort and had a great time with the fam. I could have done without the drunk high school grads though. I was fortunate to go behind the resort into the actual city, see some sights and eat at the Conch Shack. The Beaches Resort was nice, but defintely not representative of the entire city. Unfortunately, most people don’t realize that. It bothers me that people would rather spend days by a pool ordering drinks versus meeting and talking with the inhabitants, exploring the city and trying to understand the ways of living.

Ugh!

....one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. Our hotel was in O’ahu, so we only visited Waikiki during the day and I really enjoyed myself. There was a lot of construction going on, but other than that there were live bands, good eats and plenty of shopping.

I am defintely going to try to go this summer. New Orleans is only about 10 hours from me. A friend from GA and I just might take a road trip. Now, don’t get it twisted. I am defintely the “fly first class” type. But I really am trying to get out of my element and do things that I may not get the chance to do later on in my life. Besides….if I can travel 26 hours on a bus to get to Philly to volunteer, then I’m sure 10 hours won’t kill me. I’ve been intriqued with New Orleans for quite awhile and I am in love with the culture, the food, the bayous….ohhh, I wanna go!

I mean, okay….so Africa is the birthplace of civilization. Even my “white history only textbooks” admitted to that. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been wanting to visit this place. Learning about the Kings and Queens (that were Black like me!) of Egypt teased my young mind….the pyramids, the rich culture and history…..I mean, why wouldn’t I want go?
