A review of this place: Scenic, nice pubs

Beautiful scenery and a great little pub/bar scene near the campus of Transylvania University. Friendly locals, too.

Beautiful scenery, but...

...way, way too many hippies and rude, idealistic college kids for me.

Houston

Ugly, Flat

Ugly and flat and what is with all the construction in and around the city? I’ve been flying in and out of Houston for the past 13 years and they’ve still not completed construction of a highway? That’s bad government contracts at work in Texas.

There is nothing (no local event, no historic site, no attraction) that I’ve seen that would make me want to come back to Houston ever again. Sometimes even the family isn’t a strong enough draw.

Breathtaking

Seattle is always so much fun – so ecclectic in area and so much energy. Ultimate scenery from Green Lake to ultimate high-intensity in Pike’s Market. Plus, the lovely mirrored, silvery-gray sky always counts as a point in favor of those who are given to self-reflection during travel.

Beautiful, Proud City

Scenic city and so beautiful with the bridges and rivers!

Also, I’ve never seen a city’s population so proud of their home – people I’d walk past wore shirts emblazoned with “Pittsburgh: Proud to Call it Home!” and wore Pirates and Steelers shirts. Commercials ran all day tempting visitors to consider a move to the happy city.

And believe me, I was tempted – it’s friendly to walkers and people I walked past would smile.

Boring

I’ve never been to a more boring place in my life. There is nothing to do around there. I went to two sub-standard restaurants and missed the comfort of good food service at home (the U.S.).

Also, I don’t know who started the rumor that the British serve “proper” tea because every last cup of tea I had was from a tea bag marked “Twinings” – the very same kind you purchase in a grocery store over here.

I was so glad to get back home. I’ll never visit England again if I can help it.

Used to live there

Glad I moved.

There is so much racial tension going on in that city, that one would think the Civil War was still raging. I couldn’t believe that the Atlanta area was actually safer, but it is.

I was assaulted many, many times while attending Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), but I’ve never had a problem, even walking in the wee hours of the morning in downtown Atlanta.

For a city with such a small relative population, it is unreal how many people are killed every day. I used to keep a running tally every day in high school. The week I left, a man was beheaded in a park.

Too violent for me – even in the daytime. It outweighs any history the city may have to offer. You can read about it on-line or in books. Until the government can clean the city up, I won’t visit anymore.
