Boston

Worth visiting!

Very nice.

I found Boston to be a beautiful, fun and friendly city to visit. There is a fantastic variety of building styles and textures everywhere you go. There are wonderful, picturesque, narrow-laned neighborhoods with street-level cafes near downtown and a great deal of character everywhere.

I found the people to be mostly nice and considerate. The accents can throw you a bit, because they seem so harsh, even to a southerner. In fact they can be so strong as to seem comical at times, intimidating at others. Its almost hard to believe that anyone talks like that who isn’t trying to put on a character. But it you listen to what they are saying you will find that they are particularly polite. People always seemed to be thinking of some way to help me, or some positive thing to say, even if they couldn’t give me a good answer right away, they kept trying. I appreciate that so much.

For a city that has so much more history than many other American cities they seem amazingly ready to forget it. The Boston Tea Party tourist site has now been closed permanently and is being demolished. Undoubtedly a local government that taxes its citizens so abusively (The prices in Boston are exorbitant!) would perfer that people weren’t reminded of past rebellions.

That aside, its a beautiful place with a diverse style of buildings all cheek by jowl with one another and tons of ladies there wear skirts in the summer. Fantastic.

Worth visiting!

Nice Place, Chilly at night.

My family is from there, so I have been a few times for family-reunions. Dad would drive us there from Houston on summer vacations. I actually like long road-trips. Though we were only there in the summer it still tended to get strangely chilly in the evening and at night. The main things I know to see there is the CN tower and the Metro Toronto Zoo. There is also a fantastic science museum. I always found it wonderful.

Vancouver

A rumor about this place

It looks like I might actually have a quirky chance to visit here. I know a guy who wants to take a drive and I think I might actually be free at that time, so maybe I can come along. I would have to see about taking a bus back though. I wonder if I could be back in time for my trip to LA? Boy, I have a summer of traveling ahead of me.

I was just a little kid when I went but I loved it.

Hollywood

Why I want to go to this place

I will be visiting LA during the first week of July. I am there because I am tagging along on a family visit, but I would like to do some job-hunting while I am there. I am an animator and 3d model maker (modeler). I work in Maya and 3DSMax. I would like to get some interviews lined up before I make the trip, visit with some friends of my friends here. The one studio that I definately want to arrange to visit is Blur Studios, in Marina Del Rey. I will actually be staying in the Burbank area, north of Hollywood most of the time.

I have visited here once before, on a Thanksgiving a few years ago, I didn’t have much opportunity to get out then though. It was actually cold and rainy. The only sights I got to see were LAX airport and the Hollywood sign from the rain-spattered window of a car. Oh, and the really excellent landscaping in Sherman Oaks.

Why I want to go to this place

I am going to the SIGGRAPH 06 convention for animators and computer graphics professionals. I will be there during parts of the first and second week of August. I hope to be able to meet many other people there who also work in animation or the production of movies, video or games that I may someday be working with.

If you are going to the conference as well please write to me and we’ll see what we have in common and whether we could meet up.
