Cañón del Sumidero

Worth visiting!

Totally beautiful

I remember there was a guide on the boat telling us about various stuff. The only part I remember was him talking about what the area exports, and I was like “how do you export electricity?”

Well, duh…through power lines. But hey, the scenery was beautiful and I’m not a native Spanish speaker, so I’m not overly embarrassed by my blonde moment.

It's where I grew up

I don’t miss the snow, the murders, or the filth. But I miss the cheese steaks, the hoagies, the pretzels, the zoo, the nightlife, the shopping…

Dominican Republic

Worth visiting!

Made it there.

I went back in 2004. I loved it! I only saw a little of Santo Domingo (zoo, some casino where Aguakate was playing on New Year’s, the Malecon…), but I will definitely return. Next time I want to take the ferry to Puerto Rico.

I’m thinking about retiring there. One thing for sure, I have to include money in my budget for a chauffeur. I seriously doubt I’d be bold enough to drive myself around. And…if I do retire there, I’m going to figure out the cheapest way to get cereal over there. Went to the supermarket and Frosted Flakes were like $5!

(in Mexico)

Worth visiting!

I loved it!

If someone hadn’t pointed out that I’d probably need access to good medical care in my old age, I’d still be thinking of retiring here. It is so beautiful…lots of green unspoiled land.

I went horseback riding and to their museum.

If you go by bus, be on time, because if you miss yours you’ll be expected to buy another ticket.

Mexico City

Worth visiting!

amazing city

Sure many parts are filthy and teeming with beggars. But there are so many things to see, places to visit, things to do, things to buy, etc. that it’s all worthwhile.

And…as an added bonus for anyone who’s illiterate or just can’t function well in Spanish…the Metro has a picture to go along with every subway stop. So if you can’t remember the exact name of the stop, you could always remind yourself that you get off at the butterfly.
