Amongst the charms:

1. The people – even though I didn’t speak Icelandic, the people I encountered and were helped by, were very nice. Many spoke English.

2. The way the fjords are travelled by going around the shores of them, instead of having bridges across them. It lets you go through many of the towns instead of going past them.

3. The fjords – with deep valleys, wonderful to look at and even more to hike in them.

4. The community pools – a great way to end the day, especially the hot pots.

5. The summer of endless sunlight – it grew on me and I suprisingly missed it when I got home.

Went north on the west because the weather was nicer. 2 weeks later, the south route on the east.

Be aware that it is unpaved in some spots, especially on one high section on the east. On the west, saw a car which was off the road and being pulled back on.

This is a good road to see things except what is in the interior of Iceland.
