Worth visiting!

The first time I went to this place — 5 months ago

I didn’t get to do too much my first time here, there is a lot to do! I definitely plan on going back!!

Datong

A review of this place: Datong is grim, caves are awesome — 7 months ago

There is absolutely nothing to do in Datong, except leave and see the spectacular Yunguang caves. They really are amazing!!

According to the Lonely Planet, there is a section of the Great Wall “15 minutes walking” from the Yunguang caves. Couldn’t find it. Could anyone else? Ran into some other foreigners in a bar and they also couldn’t find it after hours of wandering around the area…hmmm….

Also asked locals and they said there was no Great Wall around.

Anyway, still had fun in Datong despite it being grim coal country.

Pingyao

A review of this place: One day is all it takes, but it was a good day — 7 months ago

Pingyao is definitely an interesting city. I walked along the entire city wall. It is a quaint little Chinese town, but it is also pretty touristy. After walking around and walking on the wall, lunch, I was done.

If you do visit, go to Harmony Guest House to stay the night or just hang out and have something to drink while you wait for your train out of here!
