White Sands is well worth the visit if you’re in the El Paso/Las Cruces area. It’s just about the most amazing thing I have ever seen in my life.

1) Get gas in Las Cruces. The next gas station is 50 miles away in Alamogordo.

2) Bring toys. A sled would be perfect.

3) Bring sun block. The reflection off of the sand makes the sun even stronger.

4) Bring tons of water. It’s so dry, your lips start cracking in minutes.

5) Bring more toys. White Sands is like a winter sports park in the hot desert where sand replaces snow. Don’t bring skis or a snowboard, unless you don’t mind it getting scratched up. The sand can be coarse.

On my latest cross country trip, I finally got to spend some time in Texas. We entered from the 30 in Texarkana and spent our first night at a Motel 6 there. From Texarkana, we booked it to Austin and spent the night bar hopping on Sixth Street. The next day, we had cheap breakfast at an all-natural breakfast joint in town before heading west. That’s where the Texas terrain went from hills, farms and forests to straight up desert. We spent the final night in El Paso.

Texas lived up to its reputation. It’s a strange and wonderful place. Now I think I understand America. From the smiling country bumpkins in Eastern Texas to the shitkickers in West Texas to the freaks and hippies in Austin, Texas is a land of colorful characters.

Finally, I’m going to Texas. So my best friend decides he’s moving to Los Angeles and I’m tagging along for the road trip. We’re going to make a stop in Austin to visit his friend from college.

I hear Austin is like the Brooklyn of Texas. Lots of good bars, not too expensive (by NY standards), lots of interesting people, loose women and great music.

I was in Munich during Christmas time and it was fantastic, but I’d rather be there for Oktoberfest. Yeah, I’ve heard the place gets crowded with drunk American tourists. But hey, so what if I want an American frat boy vacation in Europe.

So last summer I got invited to a wedding outside of Fort Worth. I was all pumped to go, then I had a pretty serious falling out with my would-be-date AFTER I bought the plane ticket. I was ready to just go to Texas for the hell of it and eat cheeseburgers and see a rodeo, but no one wanted to tag along.
I just need a good excuse to go to Texas. I’ve been to nearly all of the lower 48 states, but somehow I missed big ole Texas.

I was there pre-Katrina. Can’t imagine how much it has changed now. It’s a city with lots of character.

It’s something everyone should see. Unreal.

Everyone goes during Oktoberfest, but Munich at Christmas time is fantastic. It’s like being in a Disney movie. The food and the beer are superb and they have all these open air markets selling all types of stuff. Try the gluvine(sp?).

Beer and Haggis are fantastic together. I love the food, the culture, the music, everything about the place.

One thing about it is I couldn’t imagine anyone getting around the city in a wheelchair. The streets are paved with smooth stones and are mostly at 45 degree pitches. When you’re drunk and its raining, you will fall on you ass.

Great times at Sussex. I recommend it as a good place to study abroad.
