Aarau

Worth visiting!

A review of this place: Little big town

Aarau is the capital city of the Kanton of Aargau in Switzerland. It’s not the most exciting of places, but it does have something for everybody. Quiet, cute, hidden cafés, fancy “Members only” club on top of a high rise (contact me if you want to go; I am one of those members ;-), great Spaghetti, “older than 25 only” dance club, concerts, open air restaurant in summer, wonderful view of the Mittelland from the church square, the only Swiss Starbucks in a non-major city, etc, etc.
What is particularly charming is the old part of town with its beautifully decorated houses. Another advantage of Aarau is that many of Switzerland’s bigger city’s are within less than one hour’s driving distance (Zürich, Bern, Basel, Lucerne)

Elgin

Worth visiting!

Why I recommend this place to visitors

Elgin is perfect for visiting Whisky distilleries!
Very central, in the heart of the Speyside Whisky region, Elgin itself is well worth a visit. The people I have met there were all extremely friendly and helpful, happily explaining things to us tourists, and pointing out the things to do and things to see.
Glen Grant Distillery is nearby. The Whisky – when young, as it is sold by the distillery itself – is dreadful. It needs time. Lots of it. But the garden (!) is well worth the trip. Modelled after african countryside (without the lions) it has lush vegetation, and the stream from which the water used in Whisky production is taken runs through it. If you make it to the very end (and top) of the garden, you’re rewarded with a dram from the “safe”. If you so desire, you can add water, directly taken from the stream.

Paris

The city of love

I have been to Paris many times. 11 in total, if I remember correctly. And 3 of those 11 times I went there with a friend and left with a girlfriend. “Die Stadt der Liebe” “La ville de l’amour” “The city of love”... Paris, in any language, deserves its name!

Rottweil

Worth visiting!

Untitled

I had to spend quite a bit of time in Rottweil on business back in 2005. My then girlfriend accompanied me on one of those trips and I proposed during that stay at the Hotel Bären in Rottweil.
We got married 7 months later!

A review of this place: Great beer, great burgers, great location, great people

The Rock Bottom Brewery!

In walking distance from the Aquarium, easily accessible by car or public transport, the rock bottom brewery has got to be my fav place for eating in the greater LA region.
I stumbled upon it by pure chance on my first trip to LA in 2002 and have made sure I go by every single time I’m in the area. They have some of the best burgers I have ever tasted, and they have the beer to go along with them. Home made beer! Right behind you, when you’re eating.
