The weather was terrible, almost constantly foggy, but that didn’t matter. We had a couple of days of sunshine and I got a couple of rounds of golf in. (Courses attractive, but the rough was the most punishing I have ever come across). The pubs are legendary – just how I imagined West Irish pubs to be. There is plenty to see and the people are friendly.

I think Annecy is wonderful. I’ve been a couple of times. The old part of Annecy is very very attractive. The lake is crystal clear and the beaches can be a great place to be, if you don’t mind preening French teen lads and lasses being themselves. I recommend getting a pedalo or something and just taking yourself out into the lake on a hot day. Beautiful.

Wonderful water and wonderful air, but I stayed in the suburbs with a French friend – I saw the city from a different perspective. It is dirty compared to Switzerland, and the city is a bit of a sprawl away from the centre. I’m sure it’s lovely in the centre, but I was probably too young to appreciate it.

I loved this little city. It’s one of France’s gems. Ancient history, little alleys and beautiful houses. It’s a university city which gives it plenty of life. There is a wonderful buzz to Rennes. I had a fantastic meal (North African style restaurant – can’t remember the name). The weather was great, and the place was easy to get around given its compact nature. It’s friendly and lively.

To be fair, I stayed in a campsite outside of Quimper, and I was really only there to have a laugh with my friends, but we did go into Quimper and I can’t remember anything special about it. It seemed to be full of antiques and pottery.

Great bars and friendly locals.

It’s a bit of a tourist trap, but it has maintained some of its roots, and if you are picky, you can find some really good food at great prices. Obviously the galettes and crepes are abundant, but don’t restrict yourself!

I think it was worth visiting – it was a while ago. I went there on a school trip and my memories are of an impressive castle, friendly locals, nice bars and a warm feel to the town.

It poured down with rain. Nonetheless it has some interesting cultural highlights – obviously the port is the heart of the tourist focus. I didn’t take to it straightaway, and I wouldn’t go out of my way to go back, or spend more than a day there but if you’re in the Charente, you should take a look.

Only if you like surfing. If not, don’t bother. If you do, it’s superb.
