I love the Gulf Islands!

Plan your ferry trips well, as they are always booked over the summer (buy your tickets ahead of time), and you’ll end up waiting longer than anicipated for a boat ride. But it’s well worth it.

The Islands are the Candian side of Washington’s San Juan Island chain, but completely different in feeling. There IS such a thing as Island Time, and you’ll get the hang of it quickly! I prefer to tour the islands by boat and there are loads of marinas to moor at, but if you take your car and stay at one of the many B&Bs, you won’t be disappointed!

Galveston, Galveston County

Hot, muggy, touristy

So it’s hot and muggy and just kind of boring. But you can carry your open container with you all over downtown, so how bad could that be?? They also have a great museum documenting the history of the place, and the devastating hurricane in the early part of the century that killed a large percentage of the population.

If you want small town atmosphere, try Watonga

Here’s a pic of main street. Watonga is basically a farming and golfing town. They take their cows and courses very seriously! Nice people, but hot and muggy and very different than what I’m used to in Seattle!
