Telluride

A tip I have about this place

I was there around October 13th 2008, and there is nothing much to do in Telluride at that time of year. It’s a beautiful place, worth seeing, and the drive through the mountains to get there is awesome (the road ends in Telluride, once you get up there you have to turn back to get out). But, again, there isn’t much to do as it’s primarily a ski town. Also, this is a town that was designed for walking as the roads are very narrow.

Holly Beach

Worth visiting!

only a memory

I lived there with my 3 best friends for one summer in 2005 because we wanted to live on the beach. After Katrina hit New Orleans one of my friends and I moved back to TX while the other 2 stayed. The 2 that stayed ended up having to evacuate when Rita came and wiped the place off the map. I hear theyre still trying to rebuild but every time they do it just washes away.

Why I recommend this place to visitors

This is an awesome town, also very easy to navigate because its so small. Be sure to stay at the historic Strater hotel for at least 1 night- it’s beautiful. The town is right in the San Juan National park, so its not far from gorgeous mountain scenery and great hiking spots. And of course you have to ride the train up to Silverton, truly a once in a lifetime experience. I wish I never had to leave!

My birthday 10/12/08

I went there with my boyfriend for my birthday and it was pretty awesome. There are guided tours which you have to pay for, but also plenty of self-guided places to walk for free. We tent-camped for one night (about $20) in the park. This was a week before they closed camping sites for the winter. The weather was great during the day, but at night it got cold quick. It was 32 degrees when we went to sleep and 18 degrees when we woke up the next morning! Our blankets were covered in ice. Saw some great wildlife, deers everywhere! But, although it was a great experience, camping at this time of year is a bit uncomfortable.

A Vegas Wedding

I drove to Vegas from Texas in February 2007 for my best friends’ wedding. It was the week before Valentine’s Day, which was a great time to go. The rates there go up and down like crazy, all holidays seem to be peak times, but if you go during the week everything is considerably cheaper. I stayed at the Circus Circus and it was GREAT, though I was disappointed that when I went the spinning bar off of Fear and Loathing wasn’t open! They design the places so that you’ll get lost in the casinos- and you will. I really enjoyed the alcohol policy, you can go practically anywhere with a drink! For the wedding night dinner we ate at the Eiffel Tower Restaurant http://www.eiffeltowerrestaurant.com/. The bill was $300 for 4 people, AMAZING views, an awesome experience. I can’t wait to go back, you can’t come close to seeing everything in a week.
