in July ‘06. Any suggestions for sights to see?

on a leatherback turtle conservation trip in 1991. Walked the beach at night looking for and finding nesting turtles. I will never forget the majesty of these 800 lb. animals heaving themselves onto the beach and laying eggs. It was one of the high points of my life.

I visited in 2005. The size of the devastated area is enormous and it’s hard to gauge the size of things because there is nothing left to gauge it with. Sometimes you see a helicopter fly in front of the volcano and it looks like a gnat in comparison. Beautiful place, I highly recommend it.

I spent two weeks in a conservation area on the island helping research the echidna. It was fabulous! Beautiful scenery, mild weather, and animals everywhere.
