Jerome

Worth visiting!

I didn't see any ghosts, though!

I went to Jerome Thanksgiving weekend 2007. It was pretty cold compared to the valley but beautiful nonetheless. We stayed at The Ghost City Inn. This place is owned by the Chief of Police and his wife. She is super friendly and a great cook. What I liked most was that they didn’t hover too much and this B&B is super cozy and comfortable.

I was surprised to find a head shop in town! =) We had dinner at Belguim Jennie’s Bordello & Pizzeria, the old whore house for the miners. It’s a very small place but the owner/server is more than happy to share the history of the building, Jennie and the city.

Jerome Winery had some friendly faces and damn good sparkling wines. The Gold King Mine was fun to wander around. Mostly it’s a lot of “things” from the mining era but not necessarily of Jerome. You can’t miss the proprietor here: an old man with a long white beard working a turn-of-the-century sawmill.

On our way out we hit up the Douglas Mansion. It would probably be best to check this out first to learn all about the city. There’s a movie to watch and many rooms to wander around displaying artifacts of the Douglas Family.

Overall, Jerome is a great piece of Arizona history and you should go and spend at least one day there.

Central Library

Worth visiting!

A review of this place

This library rocks. First, it has pretty much everything you could want or need. Movies, magazines, kids area, PCs with Internet and, of course, books. They also offer all sorts of classes. The views from the top floor are prety damn good, especially for a library. This is also a great hub for First Fridays.

Japanese Friendship Garden

Worth visiting!

The Japanese Friendship Garden is beautiful! It’s a really peaceful spot tucked away near Roosevelt Row.

I believe they only take cash for their admission ($5 a person, was it?) so make sure you hit up the ATM beforehand.

I’ve never been a huge fan of captive animals, but, that aside, this is an interesting sight. Their beautiful and being so close is amazing.

What an incredible park. I visted the city, and the park, about 5 years ago. I actually smoked pot for the first time in that park. Hahaha.

Loved it. It was so much cooler than the Valley, not too long of a drive, and gorgeous. I would love to return.

Flagstaff

Worth visiting!

Flagstaff in the Summer

Flagstaff is an incredible city. The first time I went I absolutely fell in love. It’s beautifully green (during the warm months) and lush. Hiking around the volcano up there was fabulous. The town is situated right across from the university and you can really feel the energy of the mix of locals. Definitely look into visiting the planetarium. This town is great for outdoors, indoors, history, eating, and just plain hanging out. Take a drive through some of the neighborhoods… so cute!
