Jerome
Worth visiting!
I didn't see any ghosts, though!
I went to Jerome Thanksgiving weekend 2007. It was pretty cold compared to the valley but beautiful nonetheless. We stayed at The Ghost City Inn. This place is owned by the Chief of Police and his wife. She is super friendly and a great cook. What I liked most was that they didn’t hover too much and this B&B is super cozy and comfortable.
I was surprised to find a head shop in town! =) We had dinner at Belguim Jennie’s Bordello & Pizzeria, the old whore house for the miners. It’s a very small place but the owner/server is more than happy to share the history of the building, Jennie and the city.
Jerome Winery had some friendly faces and damn good sparkling wines. The Gold King Mine was fun to wander around. Mostly it’s a lot of “things” from the mining era but not necessarily of Jerome. You can’t miss the proprietor here: an old man with a long white beard working a turn-of-the-century sawmill.
On our way out we hit up the Douglas Mansion. It would probably be best to check this out first to learn all about the city. There’s a movie to watch and many rooms to wander around displaying artifacts of the Douglas Family.
Overall, Jerome is a great piece of Arizona history and you should go and spend at least one day there.
