I graduated from Odessa Permian in 1967 and didn’t go back to Odessa for 30 years. The people are friendly, so I’d say that it’s worth visiting for their sake, but only if you love lots and lots of flat land for miles and miles and miles. Not someplace I’d ever want to live, but again I do have a small bit of loyalty to it.

My daughter lives here so I guess I shouldn’t say too much, but really folks, this place stinks…literally! It’s not quite as smelly as it was when I lived there 20 years ago, but still, anything would be an improvement to that gagging, retching, smell. Sorry to those of you who love it, but my favorite way to see Pasadena is in my rear-view mirror.

I live about 14 miles outside of Athens. I love having a home out in the woods, but I dread going into Athens to do anything. Unfortunately, that’s where the stores and eating places are. If you’ve ever seen one of those movies about rednecks and corrupt cops, they probably got the idea for it from Athens. Call it the “town without pity” or call it “the sticks”. I wish we could move far away from here, but just can’t afford it at the moment. That’s another thing about Athens…there are no jobs, except for those who are opened up for people’s relatives. If you don’t know somebody, you won’t find a job.
