I used to always get this and the Franklin Institute mixed up as a kid. But there’s a world a difference between the two. I really do like this place but it’s a bit bizarre. The city definitely gave the designers lots of leeway but it really works well (albiet a bit dated, but hey, that’s part of the charm).
Long live the privy.

Yummy! Get prepared food like Rick’s cheesesteaks, DiNic’s roastbeef, or any of the other eight million things to choose from. Get local specialties (especially from the Amish) like soft pretzels, apple butter, and scrapple. Or if you’re on a diet, just go to breath in the smells.

While the whole process is much more processy (pick up tickets for timed tour, security check), it was nice to visit a place I had seen since I was about 12. Enjoy the irony of the cradle of liberty being surrounded by chains and security guards. And to think I used to cut through the courtyard to get to work 6 summers ago.
Aside from present circumstances, the openness of the design really seems to exemplify the idealism and hope that this country was built on.

Their Friday night happy hours are great. $3 drafts in their cafeteria space. Goes until 11ish. Bring your own food, games, friends. Make your own fun.

The museum is open until 11pm with special events and performances on the first Saturday of each month.

It’s nice, it’s quaint, it ain’t for me.

The strip is probably the most surreal, post-modern place on Earth. Everything is calculated down to the number of bathrooms in a buffet (1 for each). Simply amazing. Gambling is of course the big draw. Otherwise it’s a lot of malls, tacky architecture, surveillance cameras, and no open container laws.

It was a nice way to make sure I saw the Pacific while I was in LA. Coming from New York it was sorta like a combination of Coney Island and St. Mark’s Pl. (take what you will from that)

Skip the museum. The pits are outside and free. The museum is a bit dated and mostly for kids.

A glorified suburb. What’s the point of a city when you have to drive at least 20 minutes to get anywhere. Plus, the pollution is pure insanity (this is coming from someone who has only lived in metro NJ and NY). Apparently there is no such thing as a sunny day there. Just smoggy overcast. LA literally made me sick. I was all congested by the time I left.
