Esperanza itself is a mix of small local town and ex-pat American tourist strip (the Malecon). There are plenty of hotels and it’s so close to the beaches that it is the better place to stay on Vieques. It did leave me with an unsavory feeling that there’s some informal segregation going on, largely due to the prices places charge.

It’s touristy but amazing enough that it’s worth dealing with the fat tourists on the tram to see the massive dome in Clara cave. Tres Pueblos is a huge sinkhole that can only be seen from above. Unfortunately even the guides can’t express a large amount of fascination for it in its current presentation.
Apparently there are tours to rappel down the side of some sinkholes (about $60) or kayak down the underground Rio Camuy.
Oh yeah, It’s not really in Camuy proper.

The museum isn’t so great, lots of rudimentary science stuff but the second floor does an ok job of explaining what Arecibo does. The massiveness of the dish speaks for itself.

Route 108 is a great road to drive along. I believe it’s closed in winter so check ahead.

The “hip” were outpriced a decade ago and it has since become a place for wealthier downtown Manhattan biz folk who can take the PATH to work. I do give it credit for having an actual diverse selection of stores, not just chains. So I guess if that makes you happy…

The best tourist trap in the world. Pay toilets, fireworks, bumper stickers.
The billboards are the best part, a way to keep your brain from rotting on that stretch of I-95.

Best part of the falls. It’s the closest you can get to them. You will get wet.

I was in 7th or 8th grade when I visited here. I distinctly remember the moonshine cave for some reason. I think it was an easy hike to the top. A nice contained adventure.
