Stayed in Wailea
Wailea, on the south side of Maui, is a great resort area. I stayed at the Rennaisance Wailea which has a semi-private beach and two coral reefs right off the shore. According to the locals, it’s the best snorkling on the island without having to take a boat. Also, we checked otu Turtle Town, which you boat to, and saw giant sea turtles and a 10 foot manta ray. Staying in Wailea, if you need to go anywhere you should rent a car. The bus only comes once an hour, but it only costs $1 per person. If you’re going to the harbor to take a snorkel tour, the bus doesn’t go there. Just be sure to check your bill for the car if you don’t fill up the tank! I couldn’t find a gas station nearby, so I decided to pay a bit more to leave it a bit low. They charged me as if this sub compact economy car had a 26 gallon tank! I threw some quick math at him and told him if I had to confirm the capacity myself I would not be happy. He refunded the difference. I guess they figure most people won’t check.
