A review of this place
A touch kitschy, but it’s open at all hours of the night, and has good veggie burgers.

I was astounded by the building with the gilded sire on the spire.
It was like someone had ripped a building out of The Fountainhead and stuck it in Salem.
Although the fact that Church and State streets intersect right there disturbs me a bit.

I heart PDX.
Laid-back, not too chaotic—one of my favorite airports.

I came here from LaGuardia on a quick layover to Sacramento.
Or rather what was supposed to be a quick layover.
Instead, I was able to watch my plane taxi away as I ran to the gate. My plane was, of course, the last flight out that night. To top it off, almost every single food venue at the airport had closed. So, I got to spend a hungry night sleeping on vinyl airport seats.
Even if it has free Wi-Fi, my memories are tainted.

The compass I had in the car stopped working. Forever.

Years ago when this was Butterfield’s—and when I lived in Fresno—my family went here with my uncle. My uncle was visiting from out of town, and is something of a microbrewery snob.
I couldn’t have been even ten, so I felt like such a “grown-up” eating the beer-battered calamari.

It was hot, it got crowded, I was smashed by Tool fans …
and it was sublime.
Coachella really is the greatest miserable experience I’ve ever enjoyed.

This was a wonderful coffee shop and venue for a quarter of a century, boasting thousands of bands through the years, and who knows how many cups of coffee?
There were always the books, and the jukebox, and the people.
The Blackwater was truly a Stockton landmark, and now that it’s gone …

I used to go here as a child, and the last time I was in Buena Park, I stayed at the Embassy Suites across the street. I noticed that it was “closed for business” and the marquee was advertising an auction. This beloved landmark isn’t shutting down, is it?
