I was so thrilled to see Orkila on 43 places already! I work here as an environmental educator and live in camp. It’s an incredible location. I’m so lucky to be here!

But, that’s South-Central Idaho. I did some trail maintenance work in this park a while back, so I associate it with brutally hot days, working on lava fields. The lightning storms here were intense. I guess if it’s not out of your way go check it out, but don’t put yourself out to do it.

There’s a nice little diner on Main Street that makes some great omlettes. Log Fest is actually really wild. Drive through on your way to Rainier, it’s a quaint place. The skate park is worth trying, if that’s your thing.

I also recommend hiking in from the Lake Elenor end, which, after a short climb from the Lake, drops you out on to the meadow. It is a sure bet to be clear of people (I’ve never seen anyone else on the meadow itself, only when hiking out), and the bird watching is great, so bring your field guide! The botanists in the group will get a kick out of the diversity of alpine species. Go in late summer when the blueberries are ripe—yum yum!

Lovely 60’s-era theatre with stadium seating and screenings that often lean toward fantasy or sci-fi. The ceiling twinkles. A fun movie experience, regardless of what’s playing.
