Not bad - but been to better! — 3 years ago
Spent three years of my University life in Swansea – it was an ‘interesting’ place.
Swansea itself is located admist beautiful surroundings – it’s by the sea, rolling hills in-land, and the surrounding countryside (such as the Gower Peninsular) is renowned for its natural beauty in the U.K. For a trip of a couple of days, Swansea does present itself as a good getaway from the busy city life of London (though it’s a bit of a far getaway from London!). Swansea however is certainly not the most cosmopolitan of places: as an example – for a place with city status (pop. 200,000+) it has no Chinese dim sum restaurants. Cheltenham (with almost 37,000) has. As for sushi – when I was there (until 2003), you couldn’t get any. Starbucks only just came in 2004.
But of course, these are things which only a long-term visiting resident would complain about ; if you’re vising for just a couple of days, by all means enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Then again, Swansea isn’t the only place for that. I would probably head further into Pembrookshire, or head to North Wales.
