Beautiful island with friendly people — 2 years ago
Independent Samoa is a great group of islands for a backpacker who wants to experience Polynesian culture. It isn’t overrun with tourists and at least 2 major airlines fly here (Air Pacific, by way of Fiji and Air New Zealand). There are colorful wooden busses to get you around the two main islands (‘Upoulo and Savai’i) and a ferry that connects them. The food is fantastic – lots of fresh tuna and coconut-based dishes, plus plenty of good fruit.
