Ok, so the Vatican is its own city-state. Still, I tell people that if you have one day in Rome, go the Vatican. There is a lot to see and do and it’s breathtakingly beautiful. It’s crowded in the museum and the Sistine Chapel. Piazza de Santo Pietro (St. Peter’s Square) is unique and beautiful and famous. The cathedral is humongous. And the view from the St. Peter’s dome—there’s nothing like it. Even if you’re not Catholic, it’s completely worth the pilgramage.
