Undoubtedly impressive  — 5 months ago

I for one love the glass pyramids and the contrast between their modernity and the architecture of the Louvre itself. Because I lived in Paris for a year I bought the student pass – €15 for umlimited access for a year, not too shabby! I visited the museum 8 times and there are still bits I haven’t seen, so one piece of advice I have: don’t try to see too much in one go. The Italian Renaissance gallery is impressive and almost always crowded, so if you do want to see the Mona Lisa and the other big names here, try to come on a Wednesday or Friday evening when the museum is open until 9.45 (I think). One area that I really think is worth seeing is the wing with the Napoleon III apartments – you tend to forget that the Louvre used to be a palace and these rooms offer a glimpse of what the whole museum used to be.
