News: 2006 Heart Walk  — 1 year ago

Everyone knows someone affected by heart disease or stroke. For those I love, and in memory of my father who died of a heart ailment, I will be walking in this year’s Heart Walk on October 14. I am creating a team of walkers to help me reach a donation goal for the American Heart Association. We will be raising critical dollars for heart disease and stroke research and education.

You can help me reach this goal in one of two ways: Walk or Pledge. By clicking here, you’ll be taken to a web page where you can click on join the team, register online, and walk with us.

Or if you’d prefer, click here to see how you can make a donation online.

Thank you for your support!

News: Menopause: The Musical  — 2 years ago

I took my girlfriend Kathy to see Menopause: The Musical at the Hilton for her birthday yesterday. It was hilarious! I’d highly recommend it to anyone who is age 40+. Now we are both interested in seeing more shows.

Has anyone been to Tony and Tina’s Wedding or Mama Mia? Can you recommend either or other shows, especially ones with locals pricing or 2fers? We saw the Blue Man Group on New Year’s Eve 2005 while they still performed at the Luxor. Has anyone seen their new act? Other recommendations?

Discussion: Welcome to Las Vegas residents on 43T  — 2 years ago

This is a new group for those of us who live in THE ENTERTAINMENT CAPITAL OF THE WORLD. We’ve got edge. We’ve got heat. We’ve got the tourists’ money. And now we’ve got YOU too!

Post something bout yerself or what you like about Vegas (favorite club, hangouts, best 2-4-1 deals). Share a pet peeve (why I hate political signs all over my city!!). Rant. Or just sit there and watch. It’s all good. And what happens here never happened.

My chosen home  — 2 years ago

I first visited in the early 1980s and immediately fell in love. No, it wasn’t the neon or the mismatched architecture. It was the environs. Las Vegas is in a valley surrounded by mountains, forming a natural parabola for stellar energy. Travel in any direction for 30 minutes and you reach the high desert or foothills. What’s more, virtually everyone who lives here chooses to be here. The ones who don’t like it simply move on. It’s not like a lot of places where people complain about being “stuck” and never get out.

If all you see is the Strip or downtown, you are missing 80% of what Vegas has to offer. Rapid growth is changing the city, and it is exciting to be part of that process. We’ve got a thriving multicultural community. We’ve got the great outdoors. We’ve got sports. We’ve got restaurants, entertainment and stores open 24/7. And there’s so much more. I moved here in the summer of 2000 and wrote a history book about Las Vegas: The Fabulous First Century (Arcadia, 2003, www.legacymemoirs.com/pages/6/index.htm). I’m happy to answer questions, or point potential visitors to resources.
