The US side is far better, those that tell you otherwise are overzelous Canadians trying to lure you into their country so they can charge you the exit tax when you leave. Beware!

I know it sounds touristy and campy but take the boatride on the bottom, it was fun and worth the few bucks it costs, and make sure you have the 50 cent canadian exit tax lol
