the place to road-trip if visiting Melbourne — 2 years ago
A city is a city, but if in Victoria, the Great Ocean Road is the most breath-taking attraction and also has the beaches to visit, from the surfy (Torquay, Bells, Jan Juc…) to the scenic (Twelve Apostles etc.), which is basically the whole thing!
Make it a road trip and spare a few days if you can :)
My grandparents used to live in Apollo Bay, so I’ve been up and down a fair bit. Apollo Bay was such a beautiful, small, sort of retirement slash fishing town with a great beach, but the last few years have seen it yuppified for tourists. People go there for the beautiful seachange in a quite town, not for the horrid tourist ammenities planted over the foreshore. They’re making it into a Lorne (also on the ocean road). But I’d still visit!
Love the place.
