warmed up  — 2 years ago

When I arrived here I thought ‘wow, can’t they fit a tree in this place’ and felt like i was being swallowed up by a sea of buildings. the cab driver yelled at me for not giving a tip (which I thought I had, I hadn’t realised there was a toll on top of the meter charge), and the receptionist at the hotel was grumpy.

Then I saw central park and thought wow, how do they let a place like this exist in manhattan. I got to know some of the districts and places within them, and the place seemed to warm up in a few different ways (including literally, I had some beautiful sunny days in central park). i met some nicer people -even some nicer cab drivers.

I think it’s worth all the difficulties and chaos for the interesting places to explore – museums, parks, restaurants, clubs, theatres etc. etc.

I did the walking thing from bowling green to canal street, there is tonnes to see.

I also saw ‘Doubt’ at the Walter Kerr Theatre. It was a great play, and an interesting old theatre.

I guess there must be cheaper places to see plays in new york because I could see things for half the price of even the half price TKTS booth tickets here. It was worth the extra money as a one off to see a broadway play though.

convenience convenience convenience  — 2 years ago

I stayed in a hotel in this district for 2 weeks. It was convenient to get to other places, but I thought a little soulless compared to other places like the west village. it was just easy being right next to a subway stop.
