Iguassu (Iguazú in Spanish, Iguaçu in Portuguese) means Big Water in the language of the Guarani people, the indigenous inhabitants of the rain forest region where Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay meet. There, the Iguassu river acts as border between Argentina and Paraguay, before joining the waters of the Parana river. A few kilometres before becoming the Parana, the Iguassu bends and falls off a huge cliff producing one of the largest waterfalls in the world, higher than Niagara and composed of about 275 individual falls.
To completely appreciate the falls, you have to see them both from the Brasilian and the Argentinian sides. The Argentinian side being on the outside of the bend is much more extensive and allows you to get much closer to the falls, especially the Garganta del Diablo, the biggest and most impressive of them all.
If you have a camera, you have the choice: either your camera gets wet or you don’t take pictures. So make sure you have what’s needed to wipe it off occasionally.
