Back there next week  — 2 years ago

I’m in for another business trip to Atlanta. I’m flying out at the end of next week and will stay 3 weeks. This time, the list of things to see and do includes:

  • The aquarium,
  • Little Five Points,
  • The High Museum.

If anybody has suggestions, they will be welcome.

What's on when  — 2 years ago

Going around town yesterday, I kept seeing some adverts for ATLopen so I investigated. I found a couple of generic sites that have a lot of info about events, exhibitions and everything you can do in Atlanta: ATLopen and Atlanta.net.

There are surely many other interesting sites but those two seem to have a lot of information on a lot of things.

Then, for those interested in visual arts and who are in ATL right now, there is ATLart[ 06 ] until 12th Feb.

Basketball and catfish  — 2 years ago

I’ve been in Atlanta since Sunday night and am staying another 2 weeks. Tonight, I was taken to a female high school basketball game. It was great! Even though the team we were cheering lost. I had my camera, with the long telephoto lens. I thought this lens is great for wildlife so should do nicely for basketball players. I was right but had not anticipated how fast the game is. I have a few nice shots but nothing fantastic. Thus I need to improve my sports shooting skills.

After the game, we went to have dinner at a place that serves typical southen food. I had catfish. I was very nice.

Tomorrow, I’m heading downtown to see the Georgia Aquarium if I can and possibly Underground Atlanta and other things in the area.

Back to Atlanta  — 2 years ago

It looks like I’ll be in Atlanta for work starting on the 23rd of January, for a duration of 2 to 4 weeks. This time, I’ll make sure I have the SLR camera to take good shots. And maybe I could pop in the shop where I bought my 100-400mm lens last year to show them some of the shots I took with it. The guys there were extremely helpful.

Cool place, not very pedestrian friendly though  — 2 years ago

I went to Atlanta for business last year and loved the place. People are very friendly. The only thing that was a bit surprising for a European is the inability to do anything without a car. People looked at me with a puzzled look because I was walking in the street rather than driving round. Cool place though with a lot of interesting history. For anybody interested in the latter, I suggest you read “Where Peachtree Meets Sweet Auburn” by Gary M. Pomerantz.
