Vaya a Nicaragua — 3 years ago
An island formed by 2 volcanos in Lake Nicaragua-a giant freshwater lake. Amazing! One of the volcanos is active and pretty arid, and the other has a crater lake and is mostly more tropical feeling, monkeys in the trees and that kind of fun stuff.
I think that a few of my favorite days ever were here. We stayed up at this farmhouse about 1/2 a mile up Volcan Madera(the lake one) and in the morning hiked up and into the crater. We got back in the early evening exhausted, blistered and happy. The next morning we took a quick bus ride to a little hotel on the beach where we relaxed, drinking Flor de Cana, eating bocadillos and fresh fish, laying on the beach, swimming, playing lots of Canasta and reading mysteries for a couple days.
