On my trip i'll be tent camping. any good suggestions on the best places for this near Hanalei, Wainiha or Ha'ena? no touristy stuff, no cottages.

Kauai, my favourite part of Hawaii. — 2 years ago
this island was by far my favourite. least crowded, touristy, and most beautiful.
my very favourite things were the hikes along the napali coast, as well as a 17 mile kayak trip along it. there is a 2 mile hike from Kee Beach along the napali coast to Hanakapai beach (where there are caves, beach cats, & a freshwater river that runs into the ocean and fills up part of the beach with a freshater pool). if you hike from there 2 more miles up the river, you get to hanakapai falls. they are huge, cold, and totally worth it. the kayak trip was amazing, 17 miles along the napali coast with turtles, sometimes dolphins and seals. you stop for lunch on a remote beach that is only accessible by kayak. there is also Waimea Canyon, referred to as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. for visiting these places, its good to stay in Hanalei, or the Kokee cabins. for more touristy things, visit the Kiluea Lighthouse Preserve, (there is a one of a kind clamshell light house, as well as a bird sanctuary and whales, seals and dolphins are often seen here) or Poipu beach (has lots of resturaunts, surf shops, nice public beach and is a good place to learn to surf)
