Why I want to go to this place — 2 years ago
My passion for opera began when I was 9 years old, when I was still in Bienville Parish in rural North Louisiana with little access to performances. (I tell the story at Shreveport > Civic Theatre.) As I near 50, am living in Los Angeles and am traveling from time to time, I am seeing more opera these days than ever. Makes me happy. In Europe, I’ve attended performances in 4 different houses in Paris (Opera Garnier, Opera Bastille, Théâtre du Châtelet, Comédie-Française), at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, and at the Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania. Obviously, there are some important opera houses I have not yet visited, La Scala being one. I’ll get there someday.
