errrr...

um.. I don’t know if you’ve actually lived/worked in the NYC area, but -and please take no offense- the majority of the stuff on this list are just illogical selections for the them. Take your other list, for LA,for example. You have the actual entirety of LA County as a tourist cliche, that the locals themselves wouldn’t even go to? Hunh?

I suppose the title and such is more about humor...

Not really so much about tourist traps and cliches but everyone is welcome to add the traps and cliches. My personal take is that traps tend to be more on the activity side than the destination side, (like taking guided tour bus rides).

I tried to start off with the city/burroughs/county of the place, then the airport, and work from there. I did it this way, especially with huge metro places like LA and NYC, because it was plotting the point of entry for a tourist and because someone may go to one section of the city and that would count as a visit to the larger city as a metro area, for the purpose of this list. Next, I figure major amusement parks, museums, and other points of interest are places tourists are likely to go to. Not to say that locals never go to such places, but it’s not part of one’s normal routine to do so, unless one works there. I especially tried to focus on places mentioned in tourist web sites as “top places to see”.

Does that make sense? or does it still seem illogical? I started off making the LA one because I have long since realized that no one I know that is from LA has ever been to the Hollywood sign nor knows how to get there! From there, other major cities also deserve such a list. I mean, if you ask a tourist who went to one of these cities, and they told you where they went, it’d probably be nothing but places on the list. Maybe I simply should’ve put a better description for this list theme! I just wanted it short and sweet. And actually the entire county of LA is a tourist trap. hahahhaaaaaaaa

description modified!

I hope the new description does not give a sense of “traps”.

I love tourists

The title of this theme should be “Jealous Locals that cannt travel: New York”. Do a they really hate foreigners or just themselvelves for not taking time to explore and discover another world? All the places listed here seem to be important historical or interesting highligts. I’m sure that locals have also visited these places, if not, they should not call themselves good citizens, perhaps they never travel themselves? Why hate people that come from afar to admire your city. Please create a list: “We hate tourists” and see how many members enter their name there?

NY and SF may be well-off cities. Worldwide, tourism is an idustry and offen a large part of the GDP. A lot of poorer countries could not survive without tourists!

[If the title should be changed, I will delete this message]

copied and pasted from SF list:

please don’t take the title of the list so literally—it is more (my odd?) sense of humor and to be different/catchy rather than have a boring/bland title. i often lift titles from a song lyric, which is where it came from. if you want to look deeper into it, locals may hate tourists during tourist season due to increased traffic or perhaps the burden of showing around out-of-town friends/relatives, etc. plus, there is also the neglectful tourist whom lacks respect and may offend locals and also there is a negative view of tourists who come in and out just to see the highlights but never really learn the people/culture/etc. that is why some say that they are travelers, not tourists. in short, if you don’t like a list, don’t add it, leave it be.

everyone is a tourist

Everybody Hates A Tourist is a hilarious name, you people are taking tourist bashing far to personally.

You can be a tourist even if you live down the street. Cool places to check out can be found on almost every nook and cranny of this nation. The images of people gawking with cameras crowding intersections and spending money on silly things is something one might say everybody loves to hate.

I think its an awesome title for a list, so I created 5 more lists just like this for
Boston,
Chicago,
Detroit,
Michigan

and the USA itself.
