New York's Oldest Bars

General Washington tipped some back at Fraunces Tavern with the Continental Army. Thomas Edison took away the stress of designing the Pearl Street Power Station at the Paris Cafe. The Bridge Cafe started life in 1794. McSorley opened shop in 1854 and Abraham Lincoln was a patron. Dylan Thomas drank himself to death at the White Horse. The Bridge Cafe hosted real pirates in the early 1800s.

Great list. I’ve been to several, but will make a point of hitting them all.

I suppose you could add the 21 Club as it’s steeped in prohibition history, but it’s certainly a bit pricey.

I just hit three more of them last night— Fraunces Tavern, The Bridge Cafe, and The Paris Cafe— all in relatively close proximity to each other.
