Ten Best Ski Runs & Ten Best Lodges

Compiled by veteran travelers Nathaniel and Andrew Lande for National Geographic. The first location in the list is the actual ski resort followed by the recommended place to stay while you ski. They occur in pairs: ski at Whistler-Blackcomb and stay at Fairmont Chateau Whistler.

ASPEN?!?!

no, no, no. Colorado only has 2 mentions and they’re both in ASPEN?! Aspen is terrible skiing… yeah, it’s world-famous for the sites and the celebrities, but ask any local Coloradoan, and there is MUCH better skiing… Try Winter Park, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, MaryJane, Keystone… they’re ALL better than ASPEN. Don’t listen to them.

I suppose it depends on what one is looking for in a ski resort.

I’m guessing this listing is a bit more holistic, particularly emphasizing local atmosphere.

If it’s just a matter of the skiing itself, some of the best mountains I’ve skied that aren’t mentioned here would be Jackson Hole, Wyoming; Mammoth Mountain, CA (when not crowded); Steamboat Springs and Vail, CO.

(And by the way, Colorado actually has only one mention on the list.)
