Houston Museums

The many museums of Houston. Taking a cue from the New York list: http://www.listsofbests.com/list/9569 "a museum is any public place where items of cultural or scientific significance are on display but not for sale or loan to the general public." Science museums and art in public places, be it formal (MFAH), informal (Buffalo Bayou Art Park) or just plain funky (Art Car Museum).

Shouldn’t the Rothko Chapel (which I love) and the Byzantine Fresco fall under the Menil? If not than you should add the Dan Flavin light exhibit and the other one right across from the Menil. You’re also missing the Maritime Museum on Dorrington street. NASA is more Clear Lake but I guess you can count that as Houston. Lastly, if you’re going to mention Rice gallery you should also mention the Blaffer gallery at UH and the Contemporary Crafts Center on Main.

It's a community list...dig in! :]

This is by no means a complete list!

I’m aware of most of the places you mentioned. Speaking of the Menil, I should probably add the Cy Gallery as well. The problem with this is that they don’t exist in the system yet.

I added a lot of museums to 43 Places last night, and I got to the point where I was tired of tracking down addresses, websites, and adding photos and tags.

So it’s a work in progress. I’m taking a break, but if you want to add some places, go for it. :]

I hate the Cy Gallery, smells like glue. As for the Maritime museum, no need to actually add it, I never see anyone go there, I live right next to it.

Oh, and if you think Rothko should be added under the Menil in the hierarchy, submit a RAP request on 43 Places. I just added it when it came up in the search.
