  16. Big Sable Pt. has a small museum you can climb the130 steps to the landing and then 8 more to the top. Sable in French means Sand. This lighthouse almost washed into Lake Michigan before it was saved.Open to the public,with a 1.8 mile walk one way.

If people would like to see the inside of the Michigan lighthouses there is a lighthouse tour in October on the second weekend. Not all are open but many are. Start early because there are 100s of miles to travel, whether you start in the Detroit area and go around to Benton Harbor or the reverse and don’t forget the Lake Superior ones. Depending on where you do you’re research there are between 106 and 117 lighthouses in our lovely state of Michigan.
