Worth visiting!

Could Almost Be Labeled "Historical"

This airport is a converted airforce base. From Bergstrom Air Force base, they used to fly sorties patrolling North America during the cold war and the nuclear threat. The stepdad of a friend of mine was one of the pilots for these sorties; his wife used to stay up late at night while he was flying because there was a point in his route at which he would not be able to be recovered if he went down. It was somewhere over the Arctic Circle or something like that. She would not fall asleep until she knew he was beyond the danger zone.

At least, that is the story she tells and, even if not true, is still fun to tell.

Austin

This little airport is really amazing - it has wonderful food and crisp clean architecture. The first time I visited Austin, I knew the minute I walked off the plane that I was in the place I was meant to be. A more friendly airport there is not.
