maybe on my summer vacation

I’ll try (once again) to plan to go to the Desert of Maine (and maybe a sidetrip to Freeport – L.L.Bean’s)

Freeport is ok.

I’ve been to Freeport many times> It’s ok if you like to shop but I never find many bargins. I’d much rather spend time in Portland. The “Old Port” section is really nice with lots of places to eat and drink. :)

The NEW Freeport

LL Bean is a nice place to shop, but you are correct, most of the items can be had from the comfort of your computer chair. They do offer some bargains at the outlet off of Depot street that is worth checking out. I have been going to Freeport since before it was an outlet town. In fact my first trip to Freeport was the summer Leighton’s burned down on Main Street. Back then, you could actually drive down Main street faster than you could walk, which is not the case on most summer days now, especially if there is rain in the forecast on the coast. When they rebuilt that block accross from Beans, is when all of the outlets started to move in. We received coutless articles from the Shopping Notes from my mother in law documenting the “progress”. With every one, my husband felt that he had lost a little more of his boyhood home. They say change is good, but sometimes you have to wonder at what cost.
