I agree, I don’t like all contemporary art, or all art for that matter, in fact I really don’t have any interest in any of the renaissance art and that’s not out of ignorance. There are a couple painting exhibitions on at the Baltic which I don’t have time for at all, and I was disappointed to learn that Sam Taylor Woods photographs are all digitally enhanced, I mean if you’re going to dance on a falling chair, dance on it, don’t pretend that you are. But there is one piece in there that I did have time for, a tunnel of televisions, with a suprise at the end, it was so brilliant me and my non arty friend had to go in again, we secretly wanted to go in several times actually but the arty people might have thought we were being silly.
I can go on and on about what I like in art and what I think it should be but I don’t want to offend anyone out there…I can get quite agressive and even though I am very cynical about a lot of it, there are pieces of art and paintings and installations that just make me think studying and practising it makes it all worth while.
