Worth visiting!

Spring in the Hindu Kush

I was there in May 1981 at the time of the spring festival when the statues of deities from surrounding villages were carried shoulder high on bearers to a clearing in the forest outside Manali town to visit the Goddess Hadimba at her temple.

Each village arrived in procession with almost the entire village dressed in traditional colourful Kulu Valley clothing.

There were some days and nights of prayer, singing, chanting, feasting and conversation between communities that in some cases had been cut off from each other for months by winter snows.
