That sounds pretty new to me… where did you get this news?

I asked at the information desk when I had trouble accessing the internet from a location in the airport where I’d been able to get signal before. This was in May 2006, and I believe the lady said internet access had been removed since September 2005.
More generally, the terrorism laws in Italy now prevent anonymous internet access from public places. Anyone who accesses the internet through a public access point must have their ID recorded, such as their passport.
We ran into this problem at an exhibition, where some of the exhibits required internet access. We couldn’t set up a WiFi network because of this law, so all connections had to be over ethernet.
