Worth visiting!

The last time I went to this place

The supposedly haunted music mansion at Bennington College. Been a music student for three years so far, and I’ve only had one run-in with something creepy. I mean, it was really creepy, but still! Only one run-in…

Still. This mansion was the basis for … shit, is it the Haunting of Hill House? I think that’s the one. Old film, black and white… yes. Atmospheric and amazing.

I was a music student there, too. Used a Ouija board in there late one night, but I don’t know if I believe in those things. Prof. Siegel was a bit scary though! I miss that place!

When were you a student there? Siegel was there for quite some time, but I think he left in 2005. [I was a student when I wrote that, but have since graduated to bigger and better things that don’t cost $42k/year.]

I bought the only Ouija board I could find [freaking glow in the dark] and did the same thing. Remember the recording studio? They converted that into a practice room and changed Tom Bogdan’s old space and that practice room into a new studio. Anyway, I used my board in the old studio (which is where I had the only “scare”). Nothing exciting to report, though.

I was there from 1998-2001. Wow, Siegel left, huh? Or was he “let go”, as Bennington’s notorious reputation would have me believe? I remember how he’d call my room when I was late for class and leave strange messages to the effect of, “I hope you are on your way. Otherwise, you’ll be placed in front of the firing squad,” ... scary piano music blaring in the background, of course.

Was music your main focus? Were we there at the same time?

I don’t know all the particulars of his departure. I think he may have just finally called it quits, but then again, who really knows… [the first advisor I had was forcefully encouraged to leave, which was actually just fine with me—he was a pretty big jagbag]. I do know they replaced him with a pretty cool guy who is really into gamelan and radio jingles. He doesn’t say things about firing squads, but is pretty good with the one-liners anyway.

I divided myself between music and math [officially—unofficially, I also did quite a bit of biology, too]. What about yourself?

Oh, and I missed you by a few years—2003-2006.
